Charter School of Applied Technology - Collaborative Staff Wiki

The Charter School for Applied technology conducts a Summer Reading program for students at the end of each school year.  There are several existing programs to choose from or the school can create their own custom reading program.  To make this decision, each year a formal meeting is organized to collect input from staff at every grade level.

Last year, Terry Quick, Library Media Specialist/Webmaster tried a new approach and used a blog to facilitate "online" meetings with staff.  This year, she wanted to try something a little different. Terry decided that the new Centricity 2 Wiki app was the right tool for the task!

The Wiki is an app that allows registered users to collaboratively add, edit and delete content on the end-user website.  Terry created the Wiki as a "protected" page, which means that only designated staff would have the ability to contribute to and/or view content.  The Wiki was initially placed on the Library homepage as a way to engage staff in the Library website which contains many other resources for CSAT staff.

The Wiki was a success!  Terry shared the following comments:

"The teachers on the committee were very receptive and only needed a few reminders on decision dates. Everyone found the wiki easy to use and a great tool as a substitute for multiple meetings and emails.  Each grade level team's voice was heard and it was so simple to check the statistics of which summer reading program we wanted to use.  I will DEFINITELY use the Wiki or a similar tool again next year!
