    On June 11th, the Policy Services department of Erie 1 BOCES issued a Special Alert regarding the recently adopted data privacy and security provisions contained in section 2-d of the Education Law. It was noted that the law requires a "parents bill of rights" to be completed within 120 days of the statutes effective date, or July 29th, 2014. In response, Policy Services prepared sample language, which is attached for your review and use. 

    Please keep in mind that the sample language provided is not intended to serve as a parents bill of rights. Districts should consult their school attorneys to ensure that any document intended to serve such a purpose is prepared and implemented in accordance with law.
